I once knew a girl, the chance Ill never get
Naïve to this world and had no knowledge and no regrets
She had a piece of chalk, a canvas, a street
And she spent her time attaching lines to concrete
I was the idiot, who took the time to stop and stare
While others passed by, wondering why she spent her time there
And occasionally, she found misguided sympathy
Thinking she was an obscure oddity
The only decision I made was not using my eyes to see
She was the world, naturally
And as time passed, believe it or not
She covered her canvas, the secluded masterpiece of sidewalk
No one understood and wondered why she gave in today
Only we knew that she was finished
And she walked away
As years passed, and she found herself as an introverted somewhat
And I found myself alone, living on the same street where I never grew up
She found solace in those living for today
And he found it in her absence, he learned to like it that way
And she had a life now, with a similar crowd
Sidewalk scientists and artistic alchemists
Now me and her, separately we grew
And I guess you could say he was an artist too
So they'd connect online, sharing the pictures that they drew
And while misguided sympathy found its way back to her door
The passerbys love and loss became a bore
And while they ran home to say how truly crazy she was
And spread their rumors through the street
She'd sit back and paint another masterpiece
